“The French Connection” is a neo-noir thriller, known for its strong performances, gritty realism, and exhilarating chase sequences. NYPD detectives Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle (Gene Hackman) and Buddy “Cloudy” Russo (Roy Scheider) are in pursuit of international drug smuggler, Alain Charnier (Fernando Rey) in this Oscar winning Best Picture of 1971. Director William Friedkin, screenwriter Ernest Tidyman and star Gene Hackman also took home Oscars. (Rated R, 1h 44min.)
